چکیده

Bipolar Ti02/Pt photoelectrodes were fabricated by anodization of thin Ti foils onto which Pt had been previously sputter-deposited. These photoelectrodes are capable of a vectorial charge transfer. Current-potential curves were used to predict the behavior of multielectrode arrays. Several different multielectrode cells, utilizing KOH, O2 electrolytes, were constructed. In series configuration, the open-circuit voltage V, is proportional to the number of panels used. With five panels in series, a V, in excess of 3.6 V is obtained, permitting unassisted photolytic (Xe lamp) water splitting to produce H2 and 02.

Modeling of Bipolar Semiconductor Photoelectrode Arrays for Electrolytic Processes

The effect of light flux, redox couple concentration, and the number of panels on the electrical and chemical efficiency of a bipolar semiconductor photoelectrode array has been examined using a model based on the power characteristic curves of a single photoelectrochemical cell and the current-voltage characteristics of any desired electrolytic process. Data from a single bipolar CdSe//CoS pho...

Unassisted HI photoelectrolysis using n-WSe2 solar absorbers.

Molybdenum and tungsten diselenide are among the most robust and efficient semiconductor materials for photoelectrochemistry, but they have seen limited use for integrated solar energy storage systems. Herein, we report that n-type WSe2 photoelectrodes can facilitate unassisted aqueous HI electrolysis to H2(g) and HI3(aq) when placed in contact with a platinum counter electrode and illuminated ...

Fabrication of Pt/Ti/TiO2 Photoelectrodes by RF-Magnetron Sputtering for Separate Hydrogen and Oxygen Production

Evolution of pure hydrogen and oxygen by photocatalytic water splitting was attained from the opposite sides of a composite Pt/Ti/TiO₂ photoelectrode. The TiO₂ films were prepared by radio frequency (RF)-Magnetron Sputtering at different deposition time ranging from 1 up to 8 h and then characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ultraviolet-visible-near inf...

Core/Shell/Shell Nanowire Photocathodes for Neutral pH Water Splitting

Silicon is the most widely used semiconductor for solar cells [ 1–4 ] and has also shown promising performances in photoelectrochemical (PEC) cells for hydrogen production. [ 5–10 ] Silicon photoelectrodes with nano/micro structures such as nano/ micro wire array [ 9,11 ] and black silicon [ 7 ] have exhibited improved PEC performances. Silicon nanowire (NW) arrays, in particular, are of consid...

Self-biasing photoelectrochemical cell for spontaneous overall water splitting under visible-light illumination.

A self-biasing photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell that could work for spontaneous overall water splitting in a neutral solution was established based on the mismatched Fermi levels between the photoelectrodes. A Pt-catalyst-decorated crystalline silicon photovoltaic cell (Pt/PVC) was prepared and employed as an effective photocathode. This was coupled with a poly(ethylene glycol)-directed WO3/W ph...
